Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (Xbox 360)

Operation flashpoint dragon rising - As close to war as you ever want to get!5
As i will state this is my first attempt at reviewing a game, i don't normally feel compelled to do so, however with this release i certainly was! like many of you i expect... I have had a long history with the Operation flashpoint games, i remember over a decade ago (Aka) 1997 on the PC (if I'm correct?) playing the original to death, rightly knowing at the time that it was one of the best tactical sharp shooters available leaving the vast majority of the competition in the shade. To develop my point further, it was always the expansive environments and range of tactical measures that always won me over (Like calling in an air strikes) how many games in 1997 were able to boast this, even today the graphics don't look all that bad, enemy AI e.g- the list goes on...

More to the point in 12 years most games would have long running series by now (Halo e.g) not so with Operation Flashpoint, and you can see why! clearly this game has been in development for quite some time and first impressions are quite frankly stunning. The start up menus at the load up point are self explanatory and easy to navigate, then once you begin the campaign straight into the action you go, without a long boring cut scene or "training session" to be seen, however it is you may note EXTREMELY HARD there is no varying difficultly levels here, it is as real as it gets, so with that in mind those of you with sore patience levels might end up getting very annoyed indeed, a one shot kill can be all it takes -unless you have a medi kit handy...

Putting aside the fact that clearly this game is aimed at hardcore fans of the original or veteran sharpshooters, the appearance of the dynamic environments are always impressive and tie in very well with the challenges at hand, the graphics are absolutely stunningly sharp, taking full advantage of the xbox 360's processor i'm sure.
The realism and greatness of these graphics really show their worth when you shoot at long distance you can clearly make out your target and prepare to fire, 'even better and very satisfying when you take him down' at such a distance.

Without giving away important aspects of the games single campaign levels, the weapons on hand here are truly extensive, with the awesome rocket launchers, battle riffles and Sniper arsenal all making a welcome return, here you will also discover more weapons, vehicles, aircraft and tactics than ever before to help you crush the opposition through each level. With a generous multiplayer 2-16 system link is extremely fun and enjoyable, if nothing else is a great way to increase your skill, without dying every two seconds on campaign by being shot first, still the associated 2-4 co-op on campaign is just as enjoyable, and a great deal easier as you won't have to stop and give orders as much, this is a great addition to this new game and i am pleased none of these were sacrificed for xbox live.

So to summarize the connecting and most important thing to remember with this game is 'tactics' whether that's multiplayer, co-op or single campaign, unless you approach situations with good alert vision and prepared your well equipped team mates before heading in or in the case of multiplayer 'yourself', you will almost certainly die. Having said that choosing what you would like your comrades to do is extensive but surprisingly quick and easy to learn, i would also like to say that the AI in this particular game is really good, and when you tell them to do something, they usually respond very quickly (as long as they are not under fire) and will always attack back any oncoming fire if you were caught out and haven't finished or given a command.

To summarize, what you are looking at with Operation flashpoint dragon rising is truly a sublime tactical shooting game, it's well made it's organized and it looks good, sure it won't strike a cord with everyone and i'm sure some of you may have been able to spot a glitch or irritating feature that i haven't noticed, in any case feel free to leave a comment if you wish, still this game should reach classic level and rightly should stand alongside any on the xbox 360 in my opinion like i said earlier i would NOT recommend this game to casual, occasional or young gamers, but WOULD recommend to fans, old-timers and experienced/mature gamers due to it's complexity with difficulty and the control options, i hope you will find this review of some use, or indeed find in 'Dragon rising' as much fun and enjoyment as i did.

Fantastic game 10/10

I've waited, and now I'm in heaven!5
I started playing this game on the PC years ago, I loved it back then. Then later it came out on the original XBOX which was a slight disappointment to be honest. But this is something else; this is what I brought my XBOX for!

I'm not into most of the shooters and war games on the Xbox 360, I've tried but they just don't do it for me, this however feels real. The environment looks just too realistic and so is the game play.
The sound and feel of this game is amazing. If you loved the original then you're going to fall in love with this. Its real objectives, it's hard I mean when you're shot your dead!
The AI is spot on; the graphics are too spot on!

I just love this to bits. All I can say is this is a thinking persons army simulator. Not a shoot'em up. If that statement means anything to you then you'll probably love it,

I can't in all honesty find fault with it. A work of art? Well I will be spending the rest of my life playing this so see you later.......

A huge let down...1
I've been playing this game for a few days now, since buying it on the release date, and after really sticking at it, completing half of the campaign, and trying out all of the multiplayer features, I couldn't believe how bad it really is.

I'll start with the good points, since there are so few:
The graphics are absolutely awesome, and the lighting effects/atmospheres are really well done.
It is really satisfying pulling off well planned team commands, but unfortunately, this relies heavily on the games AI. More on that later.
That's about it.

As for the negative, it's hard to know where to start.
The game looks very pretty, but feels INCREDIBLY out of date. Things such as game menus, weapon selection screens and objective viewers are just difficult to use, and having to zoom in and click around on your map in order to tell your AI team-mate that, actually, you'd rather he didn't run into a minefield, all while being bombarded with gunfire and mowed down by attack choppers does get a bit frustrating.

The single worst thing about the whole game is the AI. Not only does this game suffer from the usual annoying glitches (team-mates getting stuck in doorways, not noticing when there's an enemy right in front of them, not responding to orders), but on several occasions, my own team has actually shot my character to death while trying to
randomly engage enemies in the area. Annoying.
Playing this game did not make me feel like a US marine squad leader, it made me feel like a babysitter, tasked with looking after 3 (stupid) children with guns.
It's so infuriating to spend 10 minutes scouting out an enemy building with your binoculars before ordering your team to sneak in to attack behind you by crawling through the long grass, just to find that they all stand up for no reason when you're nearly there and blow your cover. I spent most of the 'stealth' missions telling the team to stay back, while I had more success attacking enemies on my own!

Also, the MASSIVE world map was one of the things that the game developer (codemasters) really hyped up. Apparently it will take you 9 hours to run across the map, saying that you can explore this huge land and roam at your leisure through non-linear missions. This annoyed me especially, because this is a lie.
Yes, the map really is huge, and yes, you can travel over the whole thing if you want. But there is NEVER any reason to! 99% of the map is just forest and field with nothing to discover but the odd enemy patrol, and all of the missions are as linear as they come. You are often on a strict time limit to complete objectives, making exploration impossible, and for each mission you are simply dropped off on a different part of the map, which surely renders the massive explorable area completely pointless?

I understand that this game is meant to be difficult (and it is), but that shouldn't make it frustrating. This is meant to be 'as close to war as you'll ever want to get!', but the thing is, it's just not that realistic, either. You can die with one or two bullets to practically anywhere on your body, which IS realistic. What isn't, is that your enemies seem to be able to survive a full magazine to the chest before finally giving in.

I feel really let down and betrayed by the developers after playing this game, since so much of what they said was good about this game is simply not true. The game looks beautiful, but seems as though no effort whatsoever has gone into the actual game play.

Multiplayer is no better, with the amount of AI and atmosphere glitches doubling, and (the worst part) no option to reload a checkpoint! Meaning that, if you all die, you have to start ALL OVER AGAIN!

Avoid this game. I hope that in future the developers realize that after spending so much time hyping up the amazing features in their games, maybe they should actually include some of those features in the product.

inFamous (PS3)

Simply put - fantastic!5
Take the open-worldness of GTA, add a dash of the powers from Bioshock, sprinkle in some of the exhilaration felt in Mirror's Edge when you jump from rooftop to rooftop and finish it off with the control of Uncharted. Add them all together, and you're somewhere close to what InFamous is like.

I'll skip over the (great) story as this is readily available and other reviewers have touched on it, instead I'll focus on just why I feel this is a 5 star game. For starters, the setting of Empire City is immense - while not as big as Liberty City from GTA, this is made up for by one of the games key features - the ability to scale anything in the landscape, meaning with a few leaps and bounds you can be at the top of a large building. This opens up whole new areas for exploration that you'd need a 'copter to get to in GTA. And, if you need to get down? Just jump! Cole, as a superhero, can handle any fall.

The game is a sandbox game, so the city is yours to explore, and getting about is easy. I won't reveal too much, but throughout the game Cole discovers various new powers as he gets to grips with what has happened to him, and early on you learn how to get about on railway tracks pretty quickly, which is a lot of fun, and makes getting about the city quick and effortless (until you run into some reapers!) As I mentioned, throughout the game you learn new ways of utilising the electricity flowing through Cole, but as I'm sure you know the basic concept of how Cole can shoot electricity, I'll save any more information on what he can do for when you play it!

The reapers are the enemies of the game (to start with...) and run the area of the city you start in. The game itself has a main storyline which you'll find out when you play it, but much like GTA San Andreas, you can take away areas being run by the reapers and make them safe. You do this by completing side missions that also help you gain XP which in turn can be put towards improving your powers. The side missions are presented very well, in such a way that you don't just skim past them in favour of the main story as can happen in games like this. On your hub, side missions are represented by a yellow exlaimation mark (main storyline is blue) and often, when you're on your way to a main mission mark, a yellow one will appear right near you, luring you into attempting it. There are variations in the missions, which brings me onto my next point...

Karma is an important part of the game, other games have utilised this concept to varying degrees and in InFamous it's central to the game. On the note of side missions, some of them are treated as bad missions (starting a riot) or good missions (helping heal people), and this affects your karma. Similarly to Fable, the more good things you do, the better the reaction of others will be to you and vice versa. The karma system is strong enough to warrant you playing through as good/evil, then playing again doing everything else to the opposite extreme. Different powers are opened up depending on your karma rating, further heightening the desire to change your decisions - do you keep doing the good things, or do you mive to the darker side just to get a new power? The choice is up to you and it's a fun one to make.

Graphically, the game is very good, if not excellent. The city looks great and Cole's powers look pretty intense. The cut scenes are presented in a comic book fashion and look fantastic, however some of the scenes that actually take place within the game are sketchy, and the lip sync is static. Dialogue is strong, though for me Cole's voice is a litte tooo much on the side of gruff superhero, but that's just me.

The bottom line of InFamous is that it mixes in many different ideas from other games, and uses them all to full effect. What you're left with is a game that is, above all else, brilliantly fun, something that can often be lacking in open games like this (I mean, did anyone really enjoy having to go on dates in GTAVI?!) It's essentially a TPS meets sandbox meets RPG meets free-running meets superhero game, but only the good bits of each genre.

Basically, buy it, it's fantastic, thoroughly fun, the kind of game you think about when you're not playing it, and when you are playing it, you don't want to stop.

EDIT: Having fully completed the game on being both good and evil, I feel I should also mention the trophies that come with the game. Whether you're a trophy hoarder or a casual gamer, I have to say the Infamous trophies are excellent - some easy, some hard, but unlike many games, all acheivable with a little work and persistence (there are no 'finish the game on super-hard survivor mode whilst not dying or even being shot' trophies here. Aiming for a platinum trophy only increases replay value.

The definition of FUN!5
Sucker Punch have created a masterpiece with inFamous. It's extremely enjoyable, and plays like GTA meets Assassins Creed, with a superhero twist. The game opens with an abstract view of the city, pressing Start triggers a massive explosion which rips through the streets. It's a subtle touch, but involves the player from the first button press. Everything feels geared towards fun. Cole can fall from any height, scale any surface, and the controls are intuitive and forgiving. New abilities are unlocked at a generous pace, preventing gameplay from becoming stale. It feels like a breath of fresh air.

The option to be good or evil works outstandingly. Missions are available for both sides, with completed missions cancelling out the other. Karma also affects appearance, and how civilians react to you. Being a hero causes people to cheer and take photos, evil prompts them to boo and throw rocks. Good and evil options are available during missions, such as an early escape attempt. Cole can either attack the riot cops from within the safety of the crowd, meaning attention would be diverted from himself. This would cause a riot, and lead to innocent people getting hurt. The other option is to attack the riot cops single handedly, and deal with the consequences. The quality of these moral choice holds throughout, meaning it's impossible to see everything on the first play through. Every action (killing enemies, completing missions etc) earns XP points. These are used to upgrade Cole's abilities, giving inFamous a light RPG element.

Dialogue between characters is interesting, and at times genuinely funny. Particularly between Cole and conspiracy theorist Zeke. At one point he snaps:
"Get some rest, and a bath, I've got things to do!" Cole's actions are twisted by opposing news stations, which is also entertaining. Sound effects and music are similarly outstanding.
Additional tasks include locating 350 blast shards, essentially inFamous' hidden packages. Dead drops contain encrypted messages which help piece together what's happened to Empire City. Territory can be reclaimed from the former addicts and junkies, who took control of the city when it was quarantined. This is done by completing side quests. The selection includes 'Counter Surveillance' - destroying camera equipment & 'Satellite Uplink' - a checkpoint race across the rooftops. There is some repetition, but the tasks are all entertaining, and manage to throw up some surprises.
If I had to criticise: the graphics aren't spectacular. There are some nice touches, especially Cole's electrical powers. But a little extra polish would have been nice. However, when inFamous is this playable, and this much fun, it becomes insignificant.

Shockingly Good4
If you can excuse the awful pun, I will try to ensure this is a detailed, non-facetious review about what can only be described as an electric game (last time, I promise).

Infamous adds to a list of the ever-proliferating sandbox game genre, yet the addition of superpowers is a trait shared by very few of this mould (Crackdown and Prototype being the only two others of a similar ilk that spring to mind).

During this adventure, you assume the role of Cole McGrath, a humble delivery man whose life is flipped when a package he's delivering provides him with unimaginable powers, whilst, as a minor side-effect, destroying half of the city he inhabits - perhaps not the best start to one's career as a superhero.
The city has been thrown into quarantine; gangs have assumed control; and it is up to you to foil a sinister plot, and ultimately save Empire City.
But then again, the title is quick to highlight `Being a hero is only optional'.

Yes, as is seemingly the mandate in expansive games these days, the moral choice is one of the facets of the game, providing you with the option of shaping your appearance, your powers, and...well...in theory, your destiny - as with nearly all games with this addition, the story line is affected minimally.
Unfortunately with the morale choice, comes the scope for one path to be far superior to the other, and ultimately leave people rightly vexed when they have spent 20-30 hours following one route, only to find the alternative was far more rewarding.
No prizes for guessing which route is superior out of good or evil.
As storytelling goes, there is always an underlying reason for one's evil nature; no-one is so vindictive for no apparent reason. And generally, the reasoning behind one's malevolency is greed and power, and this game provides that incentive.

Personally, I cannot do the evil side of games. `It's just a game' is all I hear when I explain my reasons behind such a move to less sympathetic friends, but when I watch a movie for example, I want to be able to relate to the character. If the protagonist of a film went around burning orphans and kicking puppies, I would not want him to succeed.
If, like me, you are someone that gets engrossed in the story line, and tends to relate to the characters within the game, I'm sure you'll empathise with me when I say it can be hard to force yourself down the evil route. Infamous is so good at sucking you in that for brief moments, you think of it as reality, and, if only for a split-second, it pains me when I see the anguish of those I have left to burn.
So I took the arduous route of doing the morally right, only to find that the flip-side of it was to become twice as powerful.

Well why not do the evil route now? Even if I could get past my unease, the differences in the story are so negligible it doesn't seem worth the bother. And that's one of the problems with the moral choice; you never get total closure concerning the game unless you do both routes, so either you're left unfulfilled, or you spend another 20 hours going through the same process with minor differences.

Contrition about my choice aside though, I found playing through the game to be an enjoyable experience.

When you think of electricity as a power, you think lightning bolts, and not much else, right? Wrong - apparently electricity can be used to make you fly (well, more of a glide), tie people down, bring people back to life, and much more. I'm no scientist, but some of these powers don't seem entirely feasible (as opposed to all of those other realistic superheroes ;)).
To be fair, bringing people back to life has some credibility to it - after all, you could be a human...err...one of those zappy things doctors use to restore someone's heart-beat (hey, I said I'm no scientist) - but then again, it loses some merit when you can accidentally (or not if you chose the heartless option) electrocute someone, only to give a healthy dose of electricity to bring them back to life.
But to be honest, that didn't hinder my enjoyment of the game in the slightest.

For me, the combination of powers and parkour (which your character conveniently expertises in) allows you to roam the city with great freedom, both exploring and destroying the environment if you so choose.
Furthermore, powers haven't just been added for the sake of additional powers; each power has visibly different uses and effects (as opposed to the sort of game where you have 5 attacks which do largely the same).
On top of this, the fact that there are not too many powers means that there is no need to have to interrupt play to select your next power of choice; you simply have different buttons assigned to each one.

As well as excellent destructive fun, I found the storyline to be very captivating, and leaves the game open for a sequel, whilst the characters within the text all have their own charm; meaning if you can't find yourself relating to the more serious, less easy-going love of your life Trish, for example, you may find that you are increasingly amused by the more vibrant Zeke (your best friend).

There are also a number of side-missions for you to involve yourself in, which not only provide you with additional experience and enjoyment, but also help you recapture the city, by forcing the gangs out of each section you complete a side-quest in.
Admittedly, they tend to get a touch banal and repetitive in the end (many of them are the same concept just with different enemies and settings), yet overall, they helped improve the longevity of the game greatly.

Would I recommend this game? In spite of some minor qualms with it, I feel this game is incredibly fun. The sandbox setting is well used; the fighting side of the game is in-depth, yet smooth; and the storyline is engrossing.
I would definitely urge you to buy it; in fact, I would suggest you rush down to the store like lightning for it...sorry :(

Joytech Spherex Xbox 5.1 - Surround Sound System (Xbox 360)

Very sexy sounding speakers5
They sound awesome. All the noises are crisp and the bass is house rumblingly loud (if you want it to be) and tight and controlled when it needs to be. I have it hooked up to my xbox 360 and digital tv and even watching tv is a new experience.
Every aspect of the system setup can be tweaked so if you have to place them unevenly it can be set up to compensate. They also support just about every format under the sun and with the USB port you can download patches to support new sound modes as and when they are released. They are definitely worth the money you pay and have totally transformed the games and films I watch.

Absolutley incredible!!!!5
I spent all weekend testing digital 5.1 surround systems with my xbox and this was definatley the best!

A trip to richer sounds with my xbox 360 was the only way could decide on the best audio system.

I actually got recommended seperates to start with, and the guy in the store showed me a seperates system made up of sony and yamaha for £450. But i insisted on trying the spherex and even the guy in the shop was blown away by its performance! so i handed over £199 and set off on my journey walking from Leeds Richer Sounds to my car.............. bad idea! this thing weighs loads! i managed 30 seconds before i had to take it back to the shop and drive my car around to pick it up!

Get this system! it looks cheap in the online photos but once you see it in the flesh you realise that this thing is going to be quality!

Im cuttently playing Call if Duty 3 through it and its a totally different experience from standard stereo.

Buy JEAN MICHELLE JARRE - AERO CD/DVD - it has loads of fantastic 5.1 dolby digital DVD tracks which will really show off your new bit of kit!

Very Loud, Very Big..... Very, Very Impressive!!!! Now go and buy one!

excellent - a bargain too - read on5
bought this a week ago, and it is simply amazing. If you have a plasma tv and a 360, you NEED this system. The 360 vga cable to connect to your plasma allows you to watch dvds in hdmi mode on your tv, but also has a fibre optic connection at the xbox connection, so, plug in the fibre optic cable supplied with the surround sound system, and listen in ore to your 360 purr through its games, amazing sound quality. Put all your cds onto the 360 hard drive and hear the crystal clear quality of spherex's genius creation. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with this system, i thought before i bought it it might not be the best thing as it has xbox written on it, and could be a bit of a gimmic, WRONG!!!, get over it and get one bought. Now, heres the bargain bit, RICHER SOUNDS AT SHEFFIELD HAVE 4 LEFT AT £199.99 - BE QUICK, it really is worth it - GO - NOW!!!!!

Mario Kart with Wii Wheel (Wii) - Wii Remote Not Included

The best game on the Wii5
The latest addition to the long running series finally appears on the Wii with so many new changes that makes the old series seem new again.

GAMEPLAY - 5/5
In MK Wii it makes full use of the Wii's innovative controls by using the remotes tilt-sensitive motions as a steering wheel by using the attachment, also included in the package. Personally I've found this control method the best way to play this game, giving it a more arcade-like feel to it. If that's not for you though, you can use either the remote and nunckuck combo, the Classic controller or an old Gamecube contoller instead. As well as the single player Grand Prix andd Time Trial modes you can play the usual 2-4 player split screen races and battles and you can also take the game online using Nintendo Wi-Fi to battle players around the World, either by yourself or with a friend in the new 2 player online mode. Other new features include 12 racers on the screen at once, as opposed to the usual 8 that it has always been and for the first time in the series there are now motorbikes as well as cars to choose from. As well as the 16 new tracks (8 of which are un-lockable) there are 16 classic tracks from the previous MK games on the SNES, N64, GBA, Gamecube and DS.

GRAPHICS - 5/5
Some of the best I've seen on the Wii so far. Very colourful and very sharp. The classic tracks that were previously in mock-3D on the SNES and GBA have also been converted very nicely.

SOUND - 5/5
Brilliant, catchy tunes at the high quaility that you'd expect from Nintendo. I can't get them out of my head!

LASTABILITY - 5/5
Loads of modes of play and tonnes to unlock, including 4 new cups- 16 new tracks, new characters and being able to play as your Mii. Online play adds endless fun with your friends (using the Friends Codes) or playing people from all over the World, where upto 12 players can compete against each other in one race. There's 16 tracks and 12 characters to start with, so plenty to keep you busy when you first start playing. Having 12 racers on the screen at once also seems a little harder than on the previous games, so lots of practice will be needed if you want to get the gold in all of the cups.

OVERALL - 5/5
This has always been one of the best and most fun racing game series on any console and the Wii version takes everything that has been good from the previous games, made it so much better and added even more excellent new features into the mix. The new control method using the Wii steering wheel is also very fun to use and works really well. I highly recommend this to anyone who owns a Wii and think that this game really shines when playing on multi-player. This is defintiely the most fun game that I've played on the Wii so far. Buy it!

Simply Brilliant, yet slightly flawed4
The latest installment of the ever popular Mario Kart series really is a joy to behold. The gameplay is as great as ever, the online functionality is a treat, the sheer variety of tracks, karts and characters make it incredibly long-lasting, and even when you've unlocked everything you'll want to come back for more.

In terms of control methods, the wheel works great as a periphery, especially for beginners and novices, although for total control you can't beat a gamecube pad in my opinion. Also for manual drift mode (only for the pros) it's nigh on impossible with the wheel.

All that said the Artificial Intelligence (AI) is brutal to the point of frustration. In 50cc mode you won't notice much wrong, but past 100cc and onto the 150cc setting and this is where things start to get tricky. You can put in 3 absolutely flawless laps and finish last. You can even time a few banana drops to deflect red shells. You may even reach for the skies when the new POW pick-up spins out your opponents. You will NEVER, NEVER outrun a Blue Shell though, and on the last corner of the last lap you find yourself getting hit and losing the race. This doesn't just happen once however, it happens alarmingly frequently. Also your competitors in the 4 race cup will gladly finish 2nd or 3rd to your 1st places, but on the last race if you get Blue Shelled and finish last you can be sure the same guys who were 2nd and 3rd now finish 1st and 2nd. So YES, this does only happen to you and not the computer opponents! It's a cheap effort at levelling things up for the online play i guess, rather than making an attempt at effective player matching.

Still a tremendous game, but oh how i wish it didn't have that flaw...

If you own a Wii and have friends you really should get this game!5
I had been waiting for this game since I first played Mario Kart games for the N64, to have the chance to use a steering wheel on Nintendo courses against my friends. I got this game on the day it came out and played it all weekend on multiplayer and have to say that I have not been dissappionted. Not completely anyway...

The steering is brilliant, easy to use and the most accessible of all Mario Kart titles to date as there is very little to remember and learn regarding the controls, you push up or down to use weapons and keep hold of 2 and steer. Thats it! There is a large number of karts for each character, all unique with levels of handling, speed, stregnth etc and three types of bike for each player too. There are new items to use and you can even play as your own mii when you have unlocked that ability. there are courses to unlock just like the DS version of Mario Kart and also new characters such as Mr. Boo.

The 16 new courses are brilliant and take a while to master which is a good thing as it makes it more exciting and races are also much closer due to the weapons being distributed in favour of those nearer the back but that is a good thing as even races against the computer are competitive. There are 16 retro tracks too, but to me this is one of a few minor issues that stop this game from being a perfect 5 star.

The 16 retro tracks are a bit of a rip off to be honest. The banana cup for example uses 3 DS tracks, some which the DS used as its own retro tracks. These tracks have been updated graphically, but this takes away what would be retro charm, replacing it with what looks like poor rushed tracks.

It is also an expensive game to fully appreciate. you need two wheels to get the minimum enjoyment, one generously a free gift with the game, extra official wheels for £8, expensive for a bit of plastic. to use this you need another wii remote, they cast £30. Thats just for two players so it could actually cost around £120 extra to play 4 players unless your friends bring their own wii remote and wheels. This depends on circumstances outside what is actually a fine game though, and the wii remote costs are understandable taking the advanced tecnologies into consideration.

This is a brilliant game, that was so close to being perfect and its flaws are circumstantial and to be honest i really am nitpicking! It is one of the greatest multiplayer experiences i have ever had, including Halo, Call of Duty and WWE games and deserves to be shared and enjoyed amongst friends and family of all ages, I do believe anybody would love playing this game and can not reccommend it highly enough.

Overall - 95% Brilliant!

Sound Blaster Speakers

Cool, but i don't think i'd buy one again2
these speakers are cool, but the only thing wrong with them is that the little cable going from the speakers to the GBA does sometimes get in the way of the R button, so I urge you, if you play FZero - get it for the sound, but don't expect good gameplay

Blast that sound!5
Great addition to the GBA. Look cool and clip on easily. Give great sound quality. Dont know what I did without them!!!!

Wii Sports Resort (Wii) with Wii MotionPlus Accessory

Bring Back That Lovin' (it) Feeling!4
I've been lucky enough to obtain Wii Sports Resort a week in advance, so have had a few days to try it out. Here's my first ever review!

One sentence summary (if you're short on time): Resort gives you back 80-90% of that feeling you got when you first played Wii Sports. If you loved Wii Sports, you'll love this.

As ever, two player action is far more fun, so you'll need a second motion plus unit. This does make the package over £50 in these tight economic times, so maybe birthday money should be used!

The Technology

Having tried the Motion Plus unit with Grand Slam Tennis, I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't as good as I'd hoped. However, I'm now putting that down my inability to play tennis, rather than any failing in the device.

For me, the Motion Plus is very good. Good enough that you quickly forget the technology behind it, and take the accuracy for granted.

The Gameplay

So far my children (age 6 & 10) and I have tried:

Swordplay (great!) - The first on the menu, and an obvious one to gain appreciation of the motion plus enhancement. Initially there is a temptation to assume thrashing the Wii remote about is a winning strategy, but the use of blocks by your opponent disorientates your character which can then be counter attacked.

Archery (excellent) - One you get the hang of the controls, they become intuitive, and the satisfaction of hearing the Arrow fly and 'thud' into the target is great.

Frisbee (very good) - For realism, I'd say that my kids actual ability to throw a frisbee properly is reflected in the game version - fairly poor!

Canoeing (fair)

The Aeroplane one (fun)

Bowling is pretty much a clone of the original, though the spin applied to the ball is more accurate.

The Golf is similar enough to the original to be familiar, but has more courses (6 I think), and 18 holes per course. Golf was always my favourite on Wii Sports.

Other Details

As ever, the attention to detail from Nintendo gives the game lots of endearing touches - At the main screen details of who has played the game recently appear, with their respective Mii's sitting or standing together tapping their feet to the music.

'Stamps' are the equivalent of trophies on the PS3, although they are really just for your own satisfaction.

There is a full soundtrack in the style of the original game.

Gripes

If only you could play on-line....

Summary

Once again, the selection of games might not have 30 hours of new content each, but most are more than just technology demonstrations. Resort, like the original has games that you can pick up and play when you have 15 minutes, and just want to have fun rather than intense action. Having said that 2 hours went far too quickly...

I think Golf, Archery, and possibly Frisbee and Swordplay will have us coming back for months to come.

Right now, my 6 year old wants to Swordfight again, and claims he is going to 'Take me down to Chinatown...'

Enjoy!

Great fun for all the family!5
I had my Sports Resort on Pre-Order and received it today! Like many people, I loved Wii Sports and it was the first game I tried on the Wii. I wasn't sure how this one would fair in comparison...

Firstly regarding the motion plus accessory; I must admit that on first impressions I didn't think it was THAT great - I couldn't really see the difference in the game and it just made the remote heavier!:( However, when you are playing precision games (like sports - for example golf or bowling in this game), you definitely do notice the difference. In golf for example, the motion plus will detect the tiniest bit of movement when you are moving your golf club - this makes game play all the more realistic which in turn makes it more fun. The set also comes with a new longer remote jacket (I was actually thinking I was going to have to buy one separately!)

Anyway secondly, the game itself is a lot of fun. There are 12 different sports to try out. Three of the 12 sports require the use of the nun chuck which I think is a great improvement - in the first Wii Sports, you only got to use the nunchuck for boxing! Also, this time round you get to use the Wii remote in a lot more ways so you're not just swinging your arm all the time. My favourite games so far have to be Canoeing (it's tricky but v.fun paddling around in the water doing races), Frisbee (looks so simple but takes skill to throw accurately) and Air Sports (you ski-dive out of a plane and try to catch other Mii's to get photographed with them!).

You start out with one type of game per sport but as you progress, new games are unlocked so you can try out different games within the sport and different levels of difficulty. I've only been playing this for a day so no doubt there is lots more to uncover!

There are very few downsides - I was a bit disappointed with the Golf and Bowling as they are pretty much the same as the Wii Sports version. The bowling does however feel different in terms of throwing the ball - it's been harder for me to get strikes so maybe this is the motion plus in action!! I also don't much enjoy table tennis but this is probably just a preference thing!

SUMMARY
Overall, this pack is pretty good value especially if you definitely want to get the motion plus anyway (it costs about £15-£25 to buy it on its own) - I didn't feel like it made too much difference but I am yet to try it out with other games. The Sports Resort game is a lot of fun - really well-designed for the Wii. You're in a sunny sports resort and as a result the games are all bright and fun with lots of sunny music to reinforce the beach atmosphere. The game is also a great one if you want to use the multiplayer option - I think adults and kids will both enjoy it and of course it's a lot of fun competing against each other! You will no doubt have hours of fun with Sports Resort if you enjoyed the original game!

This game makes the Wii feel new again!5
WII SPORTS came free with the NINTENDO WII console and is one of the best-selling games of all time, introducing gaming to new audiences young and old, male and female and set new standards to how games are played using the innovative motion sensitive controls of the Wii remote and nunchuck . WII SPORTS RESORT is its sequel, showing off what Nintendo's new WII MOTIONPLUS can do (there is 1 included in the package).

There are 12 sports included in this game, all of which have at least 2 or 3 different ways of playing (for example - bowling now has regular, 100-pin and spin master modes; air sports has flying where you find locations and pop balloons as well as dog fights ;basketball has free-throw challenge and 3-on-3), making this game literally endless fun. The sports included are:
1 Bowling
2 Table Tennis
3 Canoeing
4 Fencing
5 Archery
6 Cycling
7 Golf
8 Frisbee
9 Basketball
10 Air Sports
11 Power Cruising
12 Wakeboarding

If you thought you were good at bowling or golf from the previous game, you'll need to learn it all again on this one as it is so much more accurate than before, making this game so realistic. Each sport is so much fun and with the MOTIONPLUS they all feel as if you are really playing the sport (especially golf, table tennis and Frisbee). As well as having a personal score for your Mii, you now have stamps that record your achievements. You can now also play team games on a lot of the games, making this more competitive on multiplayer.

There are a few things that let this down such as no online play and also having to buy addition MOTIONPLUS units to play multiplayer (without having to share a remote) means that this can get expensive if you want to play with 4 players.

Overall this is probably the best and most enjoyable game I have played on the Wii since the original WII SPORTS and there is just so much to learn and unlock so I can see myself playing this for years to come (I have literally only stopped playing the original - some 2 and a half years since I bought it - now because of this!) so this is money well spent. If you have a Wii then you HAVE to buy this!!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360)

It's gonna be awsome5
i know this annoys alot of people but still, this is going to be one of the greatest games ever made and I personally can't just let it be on the page showing it as a 3 star game.

Just calm down everyone and wait for it to be released.3
I have little doubt that this game is going to be pretty good and I will, in all likelihood, get it. However, I wish it was possible for people to just chill and wait to see what it's actually like instead of rating it so highly without ever playing it. The only reason I have just given it three stars is because I have to give it something so that I get to type this little soap box rant. As for those reviewers that claim to have played it already, well, that's good for them, if of course it was a completed version.

Magazines are probably to blame with endless "previews" that whip up the masses into a frenzy of anticipation..I have seen it more times than I care to remember. Once the game is actually released you can read the same magazine and quite suddenly what they have been telling you for the last 4 months is brilliant ends up being avererage in their review. The cynic in me realises that this is all part of the industry and I am sure there are some incentives for magazines to "big up" forthcoming titles, not least increased sales of the magazines concerned, but I am getting a bit tired of it now.

Rant over - and I hope that MW2 is a good game;the last one was, and is, brilliant.

Looks to be awesome!5
Basically, this game looks to be potentially: best game of all time.
The graphics are stunning, absolutely stunning.
The gameplay looks just as involving and addictive as CoD4, except even more so.
The storyline looks EXTREMELY involving, very interesting!
The weapons are very customisable as are the loadouts, perks, attachments, guns, and armor.
Definitely worth your purchase.

HERAO GC2.1 Purple game speakers

Impressed5
I am not a techno buff so I was confused with the choice of speakers available on the market not knowing which ones to get. I also worried if I had made the right choice, well I was not disappointed these speakers are really very good. The sound is clear with no hiss or vibration, well worth the buy. The style of the speakers do indeed compliment the game cube beautifully.

InSpire Console 5.1 Speakers 5500D for Xbox

superb!!!5
this has to be the best speaker system on the market. when i first bought it i rushed home rippeed open the packaging and plugged it in, the firt game i tried this with was halo, it was amazing......bullets flying everywhere and the strange sounds of the enemy coming from behind. secondly i tried the surround sound system with colin mcrae rally 3 (one of the best games ever !!!!) this was absolutely superb i couldnt stop playing for hours the sound was ncredible , the engine sounds from the front, the throaty sound of the exhaust from behind and the sound of my co driver to my side, and all the time the sound being crystal clear even if i turned it up full blast not even one problem occured with the sharpness of the sound.(UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!!!) i myself own a gampod ( ash design ) when used with the xbox colin mcrae rally 3 and this superb sound system you are glued in front of the tv for hours. you can use this system with any game and you'll be blown away ( literally!) by the superb quallity of the sound, i cant stop raving to my friends about this product, they have also used this speaker sytem and they highly recommend it. be the envy of all your friend, even your gran ! and buy this sound system ............what are u waiting for , order it now its tooooo good to miss . my finall verdict SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The optimal solution5
Taylor made for the xbox these speakers offer excellent all round perfrmance. I originally had set of top range Phillips computer surround speakers that I thought were wonderful - until they blew! I'm so pleased they did. These creative ones are much more powerful and hence have much better audio quality. They link directly to my xbox/dvd-player optical port avoiding any sound degradation. I wouldn't dream of upgrading these for a more expensive silver cinema system cos there really is no need - they're that good. They also look good too. Only reservation is the leads are too short for a large room (easiliy fixed with standard mono phono cables)even though. the sound would definitely fill it. Seriously - I played Ghost Recon Island Thunder and I almost caught a cold from the rain splashing around me and got half deafened off a grenade at about half volume. Pity my neighbours.

A superb mid range product5
I have decided to leave it a few months before i wrote this to see if i came up with any niggles. There was no need - the system is astounding with great sound quality all the way up to the loudest volume.

Ive hooks it up to my TV and my Xbox with the optical cable and as other reviewers said 'nothing can beat it....'

THe looks are a huge upgrade from anything else on the market at the same price range with the digital decoder (allows you to use your xbox with digital encoding through optical cable) a key selling point.

The only niggles ive had with it is the lengths of the speaker cables provided. Though that was sorted with some cables that cost me two pounds with no sound quality lost.

THis sound system looks as though it will follow be through university and beyond.....

2.1 Speaker System

Dont be fooled! This speaker system sucks!1
I bought this speaker system after reading the great reviews shown right here on Amazon and frankly i'm appalled! Were to start?! The sub rumbles and pops with all the quality of a dustbin and as for the "satilite" speakers, they really are dreadful! What seems to be genuine quality sound is let down by the most terrible hissing - the kind you expect to hear in an A reg MG Metro! The only reason i'm giving this 1 star is because of the handy cable that allows you to link the console to MORE SUPERIOR forms of audio equipment! Seriously, dont be fooled, there are far better sound systems on the market!

What a sound system!!!4
this is great. this sound system plug into the gamecube its self and also many other audio player thats have a earphone socket. the bas is amazing and the volum is deafaning. if you want extra soung out of your game and enjoy them even more get this system. wow it wil blow your mind.

Good Solid Sound, A GREAT buy!4
This FANTASTICALLY good quality Speaker System adds the topping to all of your favorite GameCube games.
The sound is definatley VERY clear, precise & LOUD! The Bass is fantastic thanks to the built in Sub-Woofer. Yes, it may only have 2 little speakers with it, but thanks to the Prologic II software feature built into GameCube it magically turns the sound from 2 Channel To a WHOPPING 5 CHANNEL SURROUND for the utlimate exprience in gaming with Ninty's next generation Games Conosle. This system most definatley takes advantage of the Cubes hardware and will DEFINATLEY make you enjoy your games a LOT more.

NOTE: This system is especially good on StarWars Rogue Leader, so if you have this game i would CERTAINLY recommend that you buy this Sound System. At the price of only 35-40 Quid, its a real bargain and itll more than likley last just as long as your Cube does.
