Needed.
If you bought the Premium Xbox 360, or have a wireless controller, and dont want to be throwing batterys away every fifteen minutes, you need this.
Theres no two ways about it, Rechardgable AA Batterys dont last nearly as long, and theres no telling when they will run out.
Using this battery pack allows you to see how much energy is left in the battery while in the guide blade during a game, as well as a half way warning, which will increase in frequency until it runs out. (These warnings dont disturb you, the ring of light just flashes alternatly)
The only problem is, there is no need for it to be expensive, and a charger cable needs to be bought seperatly. At least its a one time purchase.
Useful but perhaps a tad overpriced?
If you are using a wireless controller and find yourself forever replacing the batteries, then you might like to consider this.
In conjunction with the quick charger kit, this battery will be fully charged in ~2 hours (for a single battery) or ~4 hours (for two in the charger at the same time). This then gives around 20 hours of play, which is pretty good.
However, for what is essentially a NI-MH battery cell, it is expensive - especially when you consider the quick charger kit comes with a battery as well and is only a third more expensive. Having said that, it's easier, faster and perhaps cheaper than using normal rechargeable NI-MH AA batteries.
The alternative is the play and charge kit, but either you need to plan it in advance or have the wireless controller connected to the console for a period of time - kinda defeating the object of it being wireless in the first instance!
So much easier than eating duracells
If you're going to spend hours at the sofa trying to get on the the Gotham Heroes Channel or dispell the dark could of the invading German army from the fields of Normandy in Call Of Duty 2, you are going to develop a serious battery habit.
Microsoft deceided to deny us the chance to buy our own rechargables by making the recharge points proprietry - you can only use this battery pack.
And for the price, you could buy a lot of batteries, but long term this will pay off and be better for the environment with less dead batteries in landfill sites.
